Bangor Y to Become One Organization

The Bangor YMCA and YWCA Bangor-Brewer are moving ahead with plans to officially become one organization - the Bangor Y.
According to YMCA Board President Tyler Smith and YWCA Board President Elaine Chambers, the union will allow the organizations to pool resources and staff expertise - and better serve the community.
"We began working together as a joint operation - as the Bangor Y - four years ago and believe this step to formalize that partnership makes perfect sense," said Smith. "It will allow us to reduce expenses and keep costs down for our members while continuing to provide the wide array of programs and services that are so important to everyone."
"During the past four years, we've all seen that we're more alike than different," said Chambers. "We've worked together so well and share a strong commitment to the blended goals of both organizations, including ongoing support of all our women's initiatives."
According to Bangor Y CEO Rob Reeves, in September, members of both the YMCA and YWCA will vote on their boards' recommendation to become one organization - the Bangor Y.
"We know our membership relies on us for everything from childcare and summer camp to youth and family programs to fitness and women's health and well being.  We want to be here to provide all of it for many years to come, and we really believe we're stronger as one organization," said Reeves. "This is an important step as the Bangor Y continues to evolve and grow."

Bangor Y Mission : The Bangor Y is a community leader in supporting children, adults and families in their lifelong quest for physical, emotional and social wellness.
